Agile methodology adoption in IT can make a difference in a world of rapid change

Gradually, IT stopped being merely a support area and became a critical factor for the success of virtually every organization. The "heat" of business reached IT professionals worldwide, along with the need for rapid changes to deliver increasingly immediate, secure, and accurate results. SCRUM is one of the most widely used agile methodologies today. In short, the client's needs are translated into several "Stories," which together make up the project's scope. These "Stories" are broken down into a "Product Backlog," and this Backlog is then converted into Sprints, which are short work cycles. These Sprints typically last two to four weeks, and each one has a specific goal to be achieved. In this method, the project team takes part in a few ceremonies to plan the Sprints (Planning), assess what worked and what didn't (Review/Retrospective), and also hold quick daily meetings (Dailies) so the team can share what it did the previous day, what it will do "today," and whether there is any obstacle to moving forward with its work (Blockers). The team is self-organized and made up of members with specific roles and responsibilities.

The use of SCRUM can help development teams make better use of the advantages of cloud technology. The growing adoption of SaaS and PaaS technologies demands adaptability and the ability to quickly make new resources available in the cloud, and SCRUM enables faster interactions and, consequently, deliveries at a faster pace.

Other agile methodologies that can be used when adopting cloud technologies are Kanban and Lean. Both focus on continuous improvement and the elimination of waste, which can be especially useful when working with cloud services, enabling greater efficiency and scalability.

In short, agile methodologies can help project teams achieve a high degree of effectiveness and make the most of the advantages offered by cloud technologies. Adopting an agile approach can enable the delivery of high-quality products with greater speed and efficiency, providing better capacity management, as well as increasing the flexibility and adaptability of project teams to business needs.
